Bharat Dynamics posts steep Q1 FY27 profit rise; results approved without Audit Committee

The defence PSU's June-2026 quarter shows a sharp year-on-year jump in revenue and profit, filed alongside a governance gap and an auditor emphasis on long-idle inventory.

What was filed

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) released its unaudited standalone financial results for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, approved by the Board at its meeting on 14 August 2026. The results carry a limited review report from Tej Raj & Pal, Chartered Accountants, whose conclusion is unmodified. As a government defence-production company, BDL is exempt from segment reporting.

The quarter

Both the top line and bottom line rose steeply against the June 2025 quarter, with total revenue from operations and profit for the period well above the year-earlier figures. The company also recorded material other income during the quarter. The figures and the year-on-year comparison are set out in the key-numbers panel.

Governance and inventory flags

Two points sit alongside the earnings. First, the reconstitution of the Board's Audit Committee could not be completed: the tenure of Independent Directors expired and the required quorum was not met. Because BDL is a government company, director appointments rest with the Government of India and are stated to be under process. In the absence of a duly constituted Audit Committee, the Board itself reviewed and approved the results. Second, the auditor drew attention to inventory that has not moved for more than five years, for which no redundancy provision was made — the company states this is because advances received against the underlying firm orders/LOI, which were short-closed by the customer, exceed the assets acquired. The auditor's conclusion is not modified in respect of these matters.

Dividend

The filing reiterates that, for FY2025-26, the Board recommended a final dividend in addition to an interim dividend already paid, subject to shareholder approval at the ensuing Annual General Meeting.

‡ Computed by us from the filing’s own figures — not a company-stated number.

For a holder, the quarter shows a marked year-on-year rise in revenue and profit, but the same filing carries a governance gap — results approved without a duly constituted Audit Committee — and an auditor emphasis on long-idle, unprovided inventory. These are disclosures to weigh alongside the earnings figures, not signals of direction.
