What was filed
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) told the exchanges, under Regulation 30, that it is undertaking capacity-expansion initiatives across three of its West Bengal facilities — at Raichak, the Timber Pond facility at Shalimar, and the Damodar facility at Kidderpore Docks. The company said the programme is intended to strengthen its indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, support future growth and enhance its ability to execute larger and more complex projects. The foundation was laid at a Bhumi Pujan ceremony in Kolkata on 23 August 2026, in the presence of the Defence Minister and the Chief Minister of West Bengal, alongside expansion projects of Yantra India Limited (YIL).
Where the money goes
The bulk of the spending is directed at Raichak, which the company said will be developed as a shipbuilding hub with a 356-metre waterfront, a 200-metre dry dock, slipway, launching pad, jetties and block fabrication facilities — enabling construction of warships up to 200 metres and commercial vessels up to 60,000 DWT. GRSE said it has signed lease agreements with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata for two small shipyards on either bank of the Hooghly, plus a 32-acre riverside property at Raichak. The Timber Pond facility at Shalimar is to be rejuvenated for medium-sized shipbuilding and repairs, including restoration of a 130-metre dry dock and a new 120-metre slipway. The Damodar facility at Kidderpore Docks is earmarked for medium-sized vessel repairs and the construction of electric ferries and other small craft.
Context from the filing
GRSE described itself as the only Indian shipbuilder with four distinct shipyards, having built over 800 platforms including 118 warships for the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and friendly foreign countries. The company noted it can undertake concurrent construction of 28 ships at a time. It framed the expansion within the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India objectives, and linked the projects to employment generation and opportunities for ancillary industries, particularly MSMEs, in West Bengal.
