IndusInd Bank Gets RBI Approval for Two Executive Directors

The RBI has cleared Ganesh Sankaran and Jagdeep Mallareddy as Whole-time Directors of IndusInd Bank for a three-year term from 4 August 2026.

What was filed

IndusInd Bank told the exchanges that its Board, on 4 August 2026, noted an RBI letter of the same date approving the appointment of two senior executives — Ganesh Sankaran, Head of the Wholesale Banking Group, and Jagdeep Mallareddy, Head of Consumer Banking — as Executive Directors (Whole-time Directors) of the Bank.

This completes a process the Bank first disclosed on 24 April 2026, when the Board approved the two appointments subject to RBI and shareholder approval. In the interim, both had been redesignated as Executive Director-Designate, effective 24 April 2026, until the appointments took effect.

Who the two executives are

Per the filing, Ganesh Sankaran brings over three decades of banking experience across wholesale, retail credit and SME, with prior roles at Axis Bank, Federal Bank and HDFC Bank, including a board position as Executive Director at Federal Bank. Jagdeep Mallareddy also has over three decades in financial services, spanning retail banking, lending, credit, operations and risk; he most recently served as CEO – Retail Lending at Piramal Finance, and earlier held senior roles at Axis Bank.

The filing notes there is no inter-se relationship between the directors, and that neither is debarred from holding the office of director by any regulatory order. Remuneration is as approved by the RBI.

Why it matters to a holder

For a bank, RBI clearance of board-level appointments is a formal precondition rather than a routine internal step. This filing confirms that both Whole-time Director positions now carry regulatory sanction and defined terms, moving the two business heads onto the Board with executive responsibility for wholesale and consumer banking respectively.

Board composition and RBI-approved executive appointments are governance matters holders typically track, as they formalise who holds Whole-time Director responsibility for the Bank's core wholesale and consumer businesses. The filing records the approval and terms; it makes no statement about performance or strategy.
