DMart's Q2 revenue rises as profit and margins slip

Avenue Supermarts reported higher consolidated revenue for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, but net profit after tax fell as operating margin narrowed.

What was filed

On 10 October 2026, the board of Avenue Supermarts Limited approved the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter and six months ended 30 September 2026. Statutory auditors S R B C & Co LLP completed a limited review and issued an unmodified report. The consolidated results fold in five subsidiaries, including the DMart Ready e-commerce arm, Avenue E-commerce Limited.

Revenue up, profit down

The quarter turned on a split between the top and bottom lines. On a consolidated basis, revenue from operations rose against the same quarter a year earlier, but net profit after tax fell. The filing shows the squeeze came from costs rather than sales: consolidated operating margin eased year-on-year and net profit margin narrowed. The e-commerce subsidiary Avenue E-commerce Limited remained loss-making for the quarter, per the auditor's note — relevant to a holder weighing where the group's reported profit is being earned.

Borrowings and commercial paper

The balance sheet shows a rise in short-term funding over the half-year. Current borrowings stood higher at period-end and the debt-equity ratio moved up versus the prior year. The company disclosed a series of commercial paper issuances through the period, all rated ICRA A1+ and used for short-term funding; the filing lists each tranche with its size, tenor and discount rate. For a holder, this is a shift in the funding mix the balance sheet carries, not a change in the equity base.

For holders, the quarter shows revenue continuing to grow while profitability per rupee of sales compressed, with short-term borrowings and the debt-equity ratio rising over the half-year; the results are unaudited and carry an unmodified limited review.
