L&T, in Consortium with Hitachi Energy, Signs Framework Agreement with TenneT for 2 GW Offshore Wind HVDC Programme

L&T concluded a Framework Cooperation Agreement covering in principle six projects under TenneT's 2-GW HVDC offshore wind programme in Europe, classified by the company in its highest Ultra-Mega order band.

What was filed

L&T told the exchanges it has concluded a Framework Cooperation Agreement (FCA) with TenneT for a 2 GW offshore wind programme, working in consortium with Hitachi Energy. Per the filing, the framework covers "in principle six projects and future opportunities" under TenneT's HVDC programme, which is aimed at integrating offshore renewable energy into European grids.

The company classified the agreement as "Ultra-Mega" — its highest order band. Per the classification table in the filing, that category denotes a value above ₹15,000 crore, though the filing does not state a specific contract value for this agreement.

Scope of the work

According to the release, the consortium will continue two ongoing projects — IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 in the Netherlands — and commence two new ones, Nederwiek 3 in the Netherlands and LanWin 5 in Germany. Together the projects represent a cumulative transmission capacity of 8 GW operating at 525 kV, carrying renewable power from the Dutch and German sectors of the North Sea to onshore grids.

Within the engineering, procurement, construction and installation scope, L&T said it will execute the offshore converter platforms and associated infrastructure, while Hitachi Energy provides its HVDC Light technology for power conversion and transmission. L&T noted its Offshore Wind vertical is supported by engineering centres in India and Sharjah, UAE, and modular fabrication facilities at Kattupalli, India.
