L&T Wins NTPC Nod to Start Work on 1,600 MW Lara Stage-III Plant

L&T's Energy CarbonLite vertical secured a Limited Notice to Proceed from NTPC for the main plant package of a 2x800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal project in Chhattisgarh — its third such NTPC award in two years.

What was filed

L&T told the exchanges that its Energy CarbonLite Solutions vertical has received a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from NTPC Ltd for the main plant package of the Lara Stage-III thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh. The disclosure is a press release rather than a detailed contract note: the company did not state an order value in rupee terms, classifying the award under its internal "Mega" band.

The distinction matters. This is an LNTP, not a full go-ahead. Per the filing, the full Notice to Proceed will be granted only once the project secures environmental clearance and the LNTP period is completed.

The scope

The project entails building two ultra-supercritical generating units of 800 MW each. As described in the filing, L&T's scope covers design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the boilers, steam turbines, generators, electrostatic precipitators, air-cooled condensers and their auxiliaries, along with associated mechanical, electrical, control, instrumentation and civil works, executed on an EPC basis.

The company noted this is its third ultra-supercritical project from NTPC in the past two years.

Why it matters to a holder

The disclosure adds a large EPC engagement to L&T's energy order pipeline. But the two conditions stated in the filing — environmental clearance and completion of the LNTP period — are the gating steps before the order converts into a full Notice to Proceed. The intake is therefore best read as staged rather than fully committed at this point.

Plant capacity
1,600 MW
Unit configuration
2x800 MW

The award expands L&T's thermal EPC pipeline, but the filing describes it as a Limited Notice to Proceed conditional on environmental clearance and completion of the LNTP period, and does not disclose a specific rupee order value beyond the "Mega" band.
