What was filed
L&T told the exchanges that its Transportation Infrastructure vertical, in consortium with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has secured an order to design and build the Automated People Mover (APM) System for Phase 1 of Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai. The project is developed by Dubai Aviation City Corporation and implemented through Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, forming one component of a multi-phase airport expansion. Per the filing, once fully developed the airport is intended to become the world's largest, with capacity for 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of freight annually.
The company classified the win as "Large" under its own disclosure scale — a band it defines as ₹2,500 to 5,000 crore. It did not disclose the specific contract value or the split between the two consortium partners.
Scope of the work
The filing describes a turnkey Design-and-Build contract covering a fully integrated APM system — design, construction, supply, testing, commissioning and operational readiness. L&T's portion spans guideways, DC traction substations, power distribution, signalling and telecommunications, onboard communication systems, platform screen doors and depot equipment, while MHI supplies the APM system technology.
The company noted it is currently executing integrated rail systems projects across the Mumbai Metro, Dhaka Metro and Jakarta MRT networks.
Why it matters to a holder
The award adds to L&T's order intake in West Asia and extends its transit and rail-systems footprint to a new large airport project. The filing frames it as strengthening the company's credentials in the GCC region, where it points to continued government investment in mobility infrastructure. As with any single order announcement, the disclosed classification indicates the size band but not the exact value or the timing of revenue recognition.
