What the bank reported
Union Bank of India's board approved the unaudited standalone and consolidated results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. The release frames the quarter around three threads: profit growth, a cleaner loan book and stronger capital. Net profit and net interest income both rose year-on-year, while total business crossed the ₹24 lakh crore mark. One feature the filing highlights is advances growth outrunning deposit growth — gross advances expanded far faster than the deposit base over the year.
Asset quality and capital
The filing points to a continued clean-up of the book: gross NPA fell year-on-year to 2.42% and net NPA eased to 0.42%, with provision coverage reported at 95.20%. On capital, the bank said its CET-1 ratio improved over the year to 16.05% and overall CRAR stood at 17.94%. For a public-sector lender, these ratios describe the cushion available to absorb stress and support further lending, as disclosed.
Lending mix and government schemes
Growth was led by MSME and retail advances, with the Retail-Agri-MSME (RAM) basket making up 57.47% of domestic advances per the filing. The release also details Union Bank's role in government financial-inclusion programmes — PMJDY account balances and new enrolments under PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY during the quarter — alongside sanctions under its women-entrepreneur scheme and green-credit facilities for renewable energy and clean vehicles. These items are reported as operating disclosures rather than earnings drivers.
