What the board approved
Union Bank of India's board, meeting on 19 October 2026, approved the bank's unaudited standalone and consolidated results for the quarter and half-year ended 30 September 2026. The statutory central auditors issued a limited-review report with an unmodified opinion, and the filing carries the balance sheet, cash-flow statement and the RBI-mandated notes.
The headline from the numbers is year-on-year profit growth alongside lower non-performing-asset ratios. Standalone net profit rose for both the quarter and the half-year against the prior-year periods. The figures are set out in the key-numbers panel.
Asset quality and capital
Per the filing, the gross NPA ratio improved to 2.42% as at 30 September 2026 from 3.29% a year earlier, with the net NPA ratio at 0.42% and provision coverage at 95.20%. The bank also disclosed a contingency provision reaching ₹1,000 crore as at 30 September 2026, having added ₹200 crore in the September quarter; it states this is not counted within the provision coverage ratio or capital adequacy.
Capital adequacy under Basel III (standalone) stood at 17.94%, with the Government of India holding 74.76% of equity. The bank reported 164 fraud cases during the half-year involving ₹1,206.21 crore, stated as fully provided.
Treasury actions in the quarter
The notes record two treasury actions during the period. The bank exercised a call option to redeem ₹1,850.00 crore of Basel III-compliant bonds (₹1,000.00 crore Tier-I and ₹850.00 crore Tier-II). Separately, through its DIFC (Dubai) branch, it issued USD 600 Million of unsecured dual-tranche notes due 2029 and 2031, USD 300 Million each tranche.
Following an RBI amendment discontinuing the Investment Fluctuation Reserve requirement, the bank transferred ₹1,701.40 crore of IFR to General Reserve during the half-year.
